About This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies specifically to Garth Assist (also referred to as "GAssist," the "App," or the "Service"), the AI developer assistant provided by Darner Technology, Inc. ("Darner," the "Company," "we," "us," or "our") as part of the Garth Suite. Garth Assist is a bot application that operates inside collaboration platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams, where it answers technical questions, unblocks developers, and surfaces organizational knowledge directly in-channel.
This policy describes the personal information the Service collects, how it is used, shared, retained and secured, and the choices and rights available to you. It governs the Garth Assist application and service itself, and is supplemental to our general Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement. Where this policy conflicts with the general Privacy Policy with respect to the Garth Assist Service, this policy controls.
For purposes of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Darner acts as a data processor of personal information processed on behalf of the organization that deploys Garth Assist (the "Customer"), and as a data controller for limited information used to operate, secure and improve the Service.
What is Personal Information?
As used in this policy, "personal information" means any information that may be used, either alone or in combination with other information, to identify an individual. When we combine non-personal information with personal information, we treat the combined information as personal information.
Information Garth Assist Collects
Account and Identity Information
When Garth Assist is installed into a workspace and when you interact with it, the Service collects identifiers provided by the host platform (Slack or Microsoft Teams), such as your workspace or tenant ID, user ID, display name, email address, team and channel identifiers, and your role or permissions within the workspace. This information is used to authenticate you, associate requests with the correct organization, and deliver responses to the right place.
Interaction and Content Data
Garth Assist processes the messages, questions, commands, and content you direct to it, for example, a question you ask the bot in a channel or direct message, a thread you invoke it on, or files and code snippets you share with it. It may also access organizational knowledge sources that your administrator has connected (such as repositories, documentation, and tickets) in order to ground its answers. The Service is designed to process the content you intentionally direct to it and does not silently read messages that are not addressed to it.
Usage and Technical Information
The Service automatically collects technical and usage information such as timestamps, feature and command usage, request volumes, latency and performance metrics, error and diagnostic logs, and the type and version of the host platform. This information is collected to operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the Service.
How We Use Personal Information
Garth Assist uses the personal information it collects to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including answering questions, unblocking developers, and surfacing organizational knowledge in-channel;
- Authenticate users and route requests and responses to the correct workspace, channel, and individual;
- Connect to and retrieve context from the knowledge sources your administrator has authorized;
- Monitor, secure, debug, and improve the performance, reliability and quality of the Service;
- Enforce our End User License Agreement and applicable usage limits, and detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents; and
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We process this personal information either to perform our contract with the Customer, in connection with our legitimate business interests in operating and improving the Service, or where you or the Customer have consented. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content you direct to Garth Assist for third-party advertising.
AI Processing and Model Training
Garth Assist uses artificial intelligence models to generate responses. Content you direct to the Service may be processed by these models, including models operated by Darner and by trusted third-party AI providers acting under contract on our behalf, solely to generate a response to your request. We do not use Customer content to train publicly available foundation models without the Customer's instruction or consent. Any use of Customer content to improve our own service models is governed by the agreement with the Customer.
How We Share Personal Information
We share personal information only as needed to operate the Service:
- Within your organization: Responses and interactions in a shared channel are visible to other members of that channel, consistent with the host platform's visibility settings.
- Service providers and sub-processors: We share information with vendors that host our infrastructure, provide AI model inference, and support analytics and security, each under contractual obligations to protect the information and use it only to provide services to us.
- Host platforms: Information is exchanged with Slack or Microsoft Teams as necessary to deliver the Service through those platforms.
- Legal and safety: We may disclose information where required by law or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Darner, our customers, or others.
- Business transfers: Information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
Data Retention
We retain personal information processed by Garth Assist for as long as needed to provide the Service to the Customer and for the legitimate and lawful purposes described in this policy. Retention periods for Customer content are governed by the agreement with the Customer and the Customer's configuration. When the Service is uninstalled or the agreement ends, we will delete or de-identify the associated Customer content within a commercially reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
Security
We maintain administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These include encryption in transit, access controls, tenant isolation, and logging and monitoring. We require third parties acting on our behalf to provide adequate contractual assurances that they will safeguard personal information in a manner consistent with this policy. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent or object to certain processing. Because Garth Assist is typically deployed by an organization, many of these requests are managed through your administrator. You may exercise applicable rights, or ask questions about how your information is handled, by contacting us at [email protected]. If your organization administers the Service, we may direct your request to that organization. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
International Transfers
Personal information processed by Garth Assist may be stored and processed in the United States or in other countries where Darner or its service providers maintain facilities. Where we transfer personal information out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom to a country not deemed adequate, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission and UK standard contractual clauses.
Children's Privacy
Garth Assist is a workplace productivity tool intended for use by businesses and their personnel. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16.
Changes to This Policy
We may amend or modify this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify the Customer and update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of Garth Assist after a revised policy is posted constitutes acceptance of the changes, except where additional consent is required by law.
